Big Bell Box…

Big Bell Box

Just when I thought I had grown up and found “better” alternatives to trusty Taco Bell, they come out with this… its hard to pass up for $5. Its the Cinnamon Twists that really put it over the top, its usually hard to justify paying for the sugared Styrofoam… but here they are included with the meal!

  • One Club Chalupa
  • One Crunchy Taco
  • One Bean Burrito
  • One order of Cinnamon Twists
  • And of course, a bottomless beverage

What more could you ask for? Way to go Taco Bell!

The Blazer is in the shop again. Got home from Europe and all the oil had leaked out, I filled it up and drove it for a 1000 miles. Then the noises start… then the 4 wheel drive goes… then the fuses blow… but I still drive it for another 2000 miles. Scheduling car repairs is a night mare so I put it off, hopefully I have not destroyed the whole front end… it sounds like a tank everywhere I go and when I get it up to 65 it feels like the tires are about to warble off… not good.

Something like this happens at least once a year… usually more often… and if I want it back fixed it always costs at least $500. I pay gladly. Because I love my blazer and I believe it is destined for 300,000 mile greatness. I suppose I have inherited my car habits from my father… the rules are simple.

  1. You never buy a new car
  2. You pay somebody to fix when it breaks
  3. You run it into the ground

I plan on sticking to these rules, on occasion I will fix something myself just so I feel manly… but I don’t really trust my own car repair work… and when you live in Detroit, you can’t do anything without a car… so you don’t chance it.

3 Beastie I see…

The Fillmore

It does feel good to back in town.

It’s all the little things that happen amongst friends that make life not just bearable… but rather, pretty darn sweet. I know it’s just a concert, but Andy and I have been to three of them now… all of a sudden it’s a tradition. How could you not enjoy an evening of singing along with Paul Revere and getting extra loud when your favorite lyric hits…

It’s the haaat part that needs to be especially emphasized. They went ahead and renamed the State Theater to the Fillmore. Someday we will get together and tell stories about seeing concerts there when it was still the State. Europe was a great experience… but regular old life is still pretty grand… (especially when your best friend springs for a set of sold out tickets on e-bay and calls you up)

Back Home…

September 1, 2007 1:49 pm

The SuperTrip ‘07 has come to a close and I am happily back home in Livon I A Michigan. I truly missed my Detroit area life while gone and I am glad to be back home picking up where I left off. I will be parsing out the impact of the SuperTrip on my life for the next few months… I will let you know what the revelations are… right now it just seems like a whirlwind and I am glad to be home.

definitely vs. defiantly

March 1, 2007 1:08 pm

I never spell this word (Definitely) correctly for some reason or another and depending on how bad I botch it, the spell checker sends it in one of two directions which look about the same to me when I am typing quickly. Either it fixes it and its all good… or it ends up as defiantly

I always intend to say definitely, but sometimes it ends up the other way around and I say things like…

  • I am defiantly working on that
  • I will defiantly have that for you this afternoon
  • I am defiantly on board with this agenda
  • I will defiantly be at that meeting

Super Underwear

As part of my observation of Lent this year, and in preparation for the SuperTrip, I have decided to wear the same pair of underwear for 40 days. My confidence is still quite hi, although I am only 3 days in. There was a day when people did not have drawers full of briefs and people managed… I can as well. These are no ordinary pair of underwear though, they are made of a new spaceage super-material, known as Capilene

  • Odor Resistant
  • Stain Resistant
  • Indestructible

… we’ll see… we’ll see…

Last year I gave up pop (soda) for 40 days. This year I am choosing to drink water exclusively, thereby denying all other liquids; pop, soda, juice, beer, wine, or whatever else flows.

Last year was a challenge, two days in and I was having fairly severe withdrawal headaches around the time of my usual sweet beverage fix. I was amazed how the experience altered my desires in just 40 days. I still drink pop now, but with less than half the fierceness that I had. The question is, can abstaining also build a good habit?

I am also going to use the 40 day opportunity as a sort of training boot camp for the supertrip. For 40 days I will…

  • Have my passport on me whenever I leave my house
  • Sleep with only the provisions I will have while traveling
  • Wear the same pair of underwear, I am serious

What if all the Shane’s…?

Got together and did something…
I have been exploring the spirit of cooperation in many of my personal and professional endeavors. So I decided to try an experiment. In perusing the internet I have come across many talented people with the same name as me, Shane. It is a peculiar enough name that it separates us out a bit from the crowd. But we seem to have a lot more in common than just our first name. Of all the Shane’s that attempted to have a presence on the net, we seem to be fairly artistic and motivated to create. So what if we all created something together.

Long Hair…

So I decided to grow out my hair. I believe it started on a whim, not exactly sure to be honest. I suppose it could be some sort of a subconscious attempt to make up for my ever growing yamaka of a bald spot, but in all honesty I believe I simply decided to experiment. I usually get it cut when it gets a bit shaggy, but we are headed into uncharted territory now. In a way it seems like an impossible event (Shane having a mullet), but I am learning how the bit by bit growth adds up. I wonder what will happen to me when it is officially long…

Mass Distraction…

May 19, 2006 10:43 am
I have adopted a practice of being continually distracted by everything.  Even the decision to write this post was a distraction from a thread of at least 5 other concurrent distractions.
  • Work on this thing in photoshop
  • E-mail people about tonight
  • Find a song to listen to while I work
  • Fill out my time sheet
  • IM people about lunch
  • Start that other thing that is due monday
  • Write about writing about being distracted
