In my daily NPR listening I have taken in at least three stories on the emerging technology of FMRI, or Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It is a mashup of technology and medicine in which doctors and scientists are able to effectively see what you are thinking. What’s more, is that after observing the visual response of someones brain for a little while, patterns emerge in which the observer “knows” what you are thinking.

In the past few stories on this technology the application and studies have usually been focused on helping doctors understand how drugs affect patterns in the brain and how people suffering from mental illnesses like schizophrenia may be helped. That is all well and good, but in each story the future application of this mind reading device is hinted to be lie detecting… and of course marketing… I think I am getting sick…

Taking a break…

… some said it would be impossible, some scoffed at my resolve, but nevertheless here we are 30 days since the new years Halo gluttony fest and I have not played a single game. The Xbox’s are still in the house, controllers hooked up and all… but I am just refusing to play. It’s possible you know, self control. This is just the beginning folks, right now I am looking down the barrel of a year long rocket launcher of Halo abstinence and master chief has been taunted to…

Go Ahead, Make My Day.

I got better things to do, like…

  • Read Books
  • Make Movies
  • Design Websites
  • Walk the Dog
  • Eat a Banana

Warrior 2…

Warrior 2

Ok, so that’s not my pristine silhouette basking in the sun while flawlessly performing the Warrior 2 yoga pose… but now I can imagine what it might feel like.

I was a yoga scoffer; the girls at work would do it after hours and I would stroll by just to toss them a “what the heck are you doing” smirk. But I like to think of myself as an open minded chap willing to try new things, so it becomes common that my commitment to that personal sentiment becomes challenged by unique opportunities. Yoga happened to be next on the list during my Christmas vacation. My Sister (Co Co) and Brother in Law (Big Mac) live out in Minnesota, I went to visit. My frugal (yet ambitious) sister trades her yoga expertise as an instructor for YMCA membership privileges. I was forced to go along with it as an act of support for my sister… and to keep up my “good guy” image.

So if you have spent any time on at all on myspace (or I suppose, the internet in general) chances are you have come across one of these ads. The ubiquitous personal profile dating advertisement. I find the “True” ads most appalling on several levels…

  • The ads are not true… none of the people featured in them have profiles
  • They are borderline soft core pornography
  • They are featured on websites frequented by children
  • They are encouraging a culture of one night stand gratification
  • They are misrepresenting anyone with decent intentions associated with true

So I thought to myself, since they are making a mockery of relationships… someone should make a mockery of them. So I started with my own profile pic and put in a small textual indictment in the same style of true marketing.

Then I thought it would be fun to extract these models and put them in real pictures with real people doing plane silly things… to take the edge off the sex appeal and present them as they should be received… laughable.

TrailMix is awesome. I remember when I would scoff at such a sorted collection of twigs and berries in preference for a sack of Doritos. Doritos are still pretty awesome, but TrailMix… its not a snack, its a meal. And I intend to make a science of it. Can I replace all my meals save one a day with TrailMix? I am working on my own special blend…

  • A Base of Oats
  • Craklin Oat Bran
  • Banana Chips
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Dried Strawberry Chunks
  • Raisins
  • White Chocolate Morsels
