Early Retirement…
July 2, 2008 1:59 pmSome would say that 31 is just too early to retire.
I am not so sure.
There are many compelling reasons to retire at an early age. Adventure sports like hang gliding and wild game safaris can be performed without the fear of pulmonary over excitement. Being young, one is better suited to make the most of modern leisure activities like video games and YouTube viral video watching. A major concern of older retirees is health care and costs, young people are generally better at healing and have the option of forgoing health care all together. Some older retirees can find themselves financially strapped by their children’s education costs, by retiring before your children go to college… or before you have children all together… one can enjoy a much less worrisome retirement.
So you see the reasoning is quite sound, and as such I will be venturing on to early retirement from Wade Trim immediately following the 4th of July holiday weekend…
If the retirement does not work out as planned, you may find me…
- Trying to sell you a computer at Best Buy
- Serving you drinks at your favorite restaurant
- Installing new shingles on your roof this summer
- Or inquiring as to your preference of paper or plastic for your fresh produce
In all seriousness, it has been an extreme pleasure to work for Wade Trim over the past 8 years or so. I still remember my first summer job working with a survey crew, unsung heroes those guys. And I still remember getting my first desk job in Detroit right out of college. I felt like a first draft pick getting signed to the big leagues. Wade Trim has afforded me with a very gracious opportunity to do what I do best, learn on the job, invent new opportunities, and try just about anything I was interested in. I understand that times are tough, and decisions need to be made. I am not the first, nor will I be the last, to be forced into new directions by current economic climate.
I have worked for many of you over the past years, and I still extend my services… even though I will not be answering extension 10278 after this Thursday. Over the past few years I have become very well acquainted with the freelance graphics / media community in Detroit, and I feel quite confident that I or a team that I would assemble could tackle any of your graphics or media needs at a reasonable contract rate. I will be following up with many of you on an individual basis to reiterate this Wade Trim approved offering of my freelance services.
I have recently started my own business that focuses on the creation of powerful websites at a very reasonable rate. I am very responsive with starting up a new website from scratch, giving it a professional look, and adding in a high level of functionality. If you or someone you know is looking for a website designer, I would greatly appreciate the referral.

I intend to stick it out in Detroit, and look forward to seeing you all again as opportunity affords and God wills.
Looking forward with hope (and perhaps naive optimism)
