Last year I gave up pop (soda) for 40 days. This year I am choosing to drink water exclusively, thereby denying all other liquids; pop, soda, juice, beer, wine, or whatever else flows.

Last year was a challenge, two days in and I was having fairly severe withdrawal headaches around the time of my usual sweet beverage fix. I was amazed how the experience altered my desires in just 40 days. I still drink pop now, but with less than half the fierceness that I had. The question is, can abstaining also build a good habit?

I am also going to use the 40 day opportunity as a sort of training boot camp for the supertrip. For 40 days I will…

  • Have my passport on me whenever I leave my house
  • Sleep with only the provisions I will have while traveling
  • Wear the same pair of underwear, I am serious

are you allowed to drink cucumber water? water with lemon or more importantly celery water? can the water be sparkling? must it be domestic or can it be imported? I like Perrier, Penta and Fiji water, but those are almost luxuries in a way.

I had not considered all the different variations of water that are available now when I first made the decision. Upon a visit to meijer today, I was forced to make that decision. I decided; no froofy berry waters, no colored water, no super enhanced caffeine spiked water. Only water that claims to be filtered, pure, of some sort of a spring source, or otherwise better than other water do to its “waterness” .

i’ve been meaning to tell you, i like the new site. and by the way, i do read your blog.
good luck on the fasting…i totally forgot when lent came up that it was even lent. but earlier this week i asked God for something to obey Him on. a few hours later, He asked me to give up social networking for 3 days. can you imagine?! so i did. but now that time is over. i am not even on there that much, but it was still kinda hard to not jump on, such a habit.
